yo yo! danm, its been a minute since i last posted. school is getting crazy! i think i took too many classes this quarter! i've been puttin mad time in at school and i havent been able to get down on some other meduims, mostly just pencil drawings. i got my anatomy scketch book back from last quarter and these were some notes i took for drawing faces with foreshortening from the sides. i like how the line work came out on this one, really definite countour lines that form the face, the hair drawn with simple lines, all of it really came together.

purple pigeon

This is the pigeon drawing i did at balboa. i actually did a couple, but this is the only one i liked. these birds move fast! i barly had enough time to get down a line of action befor they waddled away. i could have used a slice of bread right about then, but i managed. i scanned it into photoshop and painted it. bloust!

botanical building @ balboa park

Today i took a solo mission to balboa park after stopping by school to buy some books for this quarter. I ended up bustin out a pencil version first of the Botanical Building, then i took it home and went over it with pen & ink. Originally, i wanted to do it strait pen & ink, but there wernt any worthy spots for me to really get down so i did them in pencil. I did some other drawings of plants and birds but i wasnt as happy with them as i was with this one. Next time i go, ima bring some bread to feed the birds. I had a real hard time drawing them because they kept moving. Maybe ill post the sketches later?

music made portable

This is another project I did for my color theory class. The assignment was to create a three astage journey that would serve as a background for sramps. My journey depicts my portable music divices. The medium I used was gouache and technixal pens. Back in the day, I had a walkman. I used to stay up real late and record songs off the radio that I liked to make my own little mixtape. I would walk to school bumpin my jams! It was dope! From there, I moved on to cd players. Man, I ran through those things like every other month, especially when I learned how to burn cd's, it was on! I hated having to take the batteries out a remote or something because mine were always dead, but you gotta do what you gotta do! After that, I got an ipod! now this thing is the shit! Its small, it hold hours of songs, and it dosnt require batteries! Ipod really covered thier bases on this thing. I'm anxious to see what new portable music device they'll come up with next!

old school technology

These are some ink & pen drawings i was working on earlier today. I was going to get down on some gouach, but i got caught up with these. I was thinking of old school technology for the subject matter and this is what came out. A phonograph & a telephone. I painted them in photoshop and that was that.

outside barnes and noble

Acouple of days ago, i picked up some art supplies and right next to the art store was a barnes and noble. i decided to bust out a quick pencil sketch sitting outside at a table. Im trying to brush up on my perspective. I scanned it in and painted it in photoshop.

i see scratches

This piece i also did for my color theory class last quater. This is my interpretation of what a scratch on a turntable would look like translated through gouache. For this painting, i spent most of my time on the colored squiggly lines. i tried to mix up intense, vibrant colors to represent different scratches. The path of the lines were made by just controling my arm to the sound of the scratch. I really liked how the different lines and thier directions came together to create bloches and patches of color. i hit it with some paint splatters from my toothbrush tool and that was all she wrote for this one.

homeland security

Ever wonder whats up with all those cameras you see everywhere nowadays. It's rediculous! Ever since 9/11, our country has up'd its national security and i think its getting out of hand. Everywhere you go, you see more and more security cameras, apparently installed for our benifit, and more and more security installations are becomming more accepted by society. Theres just acouple of questions that arises out of this, who is watching all this footage, and what are they doing with it. I did this piece for my color theory class and the initial idea was crow sitting on a telephone wire to represent independence and self sufficiency, but in the end, the composition was not how i wanted it to flow. While i was painting, i was watching a tv special on homeland security. I decided to incorporate security cameras on the telephone pole to represent the acceptance of where these cameras are going up, and also the rediculous amount of cameras that can occupy one area. The purple sky represents the ever growing eye of the government engulfing the orange and yellow portion of the sky that represents our right to privacy. Big brother is watching, it's time we start watching back!

tree of knowledge

This is one of my most recent pieces i've done. I call it the tree of knowledge. The tree represents the knowledge that i hope to poses one day and the sproutling represents my learning expireance. I painted it on a piece of cardboard that i ripped off a box. I used gouache for the primary medium of color and colored pancils for the highlights and india ink for the outlines. At first the idea just was the tree, but after i finished it, the composition didn't feel right so i decided to add a sproutling to kinda balance the piece. I got kinda expirimental with this one on the leaves. I thought it would be a good idea to use some items from nature to mimic it so i used these tiny leafs from my backyard like stamps, pressing them into some guoache, then pressing them onto the cardboard. I used some black india ink to outline the tree and its leafs. Thats pretty much how i did this one. This painting itself was a learning experience especially with guoache becuase i havent mixed mediums like watercolor, colored pencils, and ink into a piece before. It was fun!

new beginnings

Ay ya'll! Its official, i got a blog. Basically, I created this blog to catalog my artwork. I figured that its a new year and i needed something new to do. Im still messing with the layout of my blog so its not compleatly done. I plan on scanning some of my pieces soon. Hopefully they will go up sometime this week. I also plan on having a painting session tomarrow. On saturday, i sold some of my books from last quarter and made some doe. I decided to go to the art store and pick of some most needed supplies. So for tomarrow, i plan on putting on my favoret record and gettin down on some gouache. I'll be sure to post the paintings when thier done. As for now ima hit the hey, im beat!
