Hard Surface & Organic Modeling

these 2 models were made form my final in HS&OM. the final was to build tools from photo reference with a rendered image and a wireframe render. i chose to make a level and flashlight.

this is a firehydrant i modeled.

Mid-Term Challenge

one day i was sitting thru one of grady classes, i think it was hard surface and organic modeling and it happend to be on his mid term day. i wasnt in the class, but i decided to take his mid term just for kicks. the midterm was to build a lamp by photo reference in 2 hour with a rendered image and a wireframed turnaround. i finished with time to spare, and i think i did pretty well, but i didnt get graded on it.

"Miss Magician"

this was a character i was messin with for intermediate 2d animation class. i really like this set of sketches i did of her so i decided to post em.

Photography Process Book

i took a photography class as an elective @ school and i turned out to be one of the best classes i've taken so far. i really learned the functionality and capabilities of a camera and also several photo editing techniques. i had alot of fun driving around all day and stopping to take pictures of what ever looked interesting. this was my final for the class, a photo process book.

"Matix Clothing Commerical"

this is a little commercial i made for my final in motion graphics, i decided to do it on my favoret clothing company Matix. i used after effects for this piece, i hope you likes!

jays modern art

these pieces were done as assignments for my modern art class. this course spanned many art movements from the beginning of the renaissance to later movements like impressionism and cubism. the assignments were quite simple, i'd take an old piece of art i've done and stlyize it towards the assigned art movement of that week.

"Cezanne's Flower"

i did a quick sketch of a begonia cupid curl flower at the botanical garden @ balboa park. i appropreated this sketch to the stylizations of Paul Cezanne's "Mont-Sainte-Victoire."
For my design, I wanted to use the same color pallet Cezanne used in his painting, I also wanted to mimic his brush strokes as much as possible.

"Adele Bloch-Bauer I Sample"

i decided to reuse a face study i did back i life & geusture stylized it towards the late Austrian symbolist painter, Gustav Klimt. He used symbolic elements to convey psychological ideas and emphasized the "freedom" of art from traditional culture. i smapled his painting "Adele Bloch-Bauer I."

"New Nude"

this piece is dedicated to the late great Henri Matisse. Henri Matisse was a French artist, known for his use of color and his fluid, brilliant and original draftsmanship. i sampled his piece "Blue Nude." i wanted to focus on the tones and shades of the figure in Matisse's piece, and not his flurishing background, although i think my piece could have used a bg.

"jay's couch"

Considered the Master of Modernism, Marcel Breuer was an architect and furniture designer
that is most noted for his modular constructions and his combination of art & technology. One of his famous furniture pieces was the Wassily Chair. It was designed in 1925 and was influenced by the curved tubular steel handlebars on his bicycle. i decided to model this object in Maya because its more of a contemporary form of art. i wanted to give his design more of a modern twist, so i scaled it into a couch. i wanted to counter his "individualistic" from of a chair into more of a contemporary group setting.

i really enjoyed the class and my instructor Larry Caveney is very knowlegible about the different art movements and the artists that represent those movements, so i learned alot. i found it very interesting in inspirational. knowing the past is the key to the future!
